Sid Krupkin (Mr. Sid), Anti-bullying specialist and songwriter
Mr. Sid taught High School English for the Buffalo Public Schools for 23 years before gaining the opportunity to direct the Communication Arts department at the Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts. After nine years there, preparing students for careers in Broadcast Journalism and Media Production, Sid officially retired from the New York State Education system but not from education. He became the Education Director at Temple Beth Sholom in Sarasota, Florida and later directed programming and education at the Jewish Museum of Florida in Miami Beach.
Mr. Sid has also accomplished a great deal in the field of music, recording an album of original songs and performing as a singer-songwriter in New York, Canada, Israel and Jamaica. After working with Peter Yarrow of the legendary folk group Peter, Paul and Mary, he developed an interest in the anti-bullying movement helped to establish the Foundation for Respect Ability in Charlotte, NC. While working as Education Director for that organization, Mr. Sid became artist-in-residence at 13 schools on a full-year basis over the course of six school years. Mr. Sid also performed at over 20 additional venues, conducting workshops and performing concerts throughout the region. In 2013, Sid joined forces with American Idol Clay Aiken and his National Inclusion Project, performing a concert at the historic McGlohan Theater in Charlotte.
Mr. Sid’s work in the Charlotte-Mecklenberg Schools encompassed issues related to bullying in its many forms and also opened opportunities for character education and community-building throughout the school environment. Utilizing songwriting, creative writing and visual arts as ways for students to express and address their deepest concerns and hopes, Mr. Sid continues to introduce new ideas and foster methods for real change.
